Track Facts
The Osterreichring track was built in 1969 to replace the Zeltweg Airfield Circuit, which held a single F1 Grand Prix there in 1964. In 1995-96 it was rebuilt by German designer Hermann Tilke - well known for designing many Formula 1 circuits. It was renamed the A1-Ring and hosted the Austrian GP from 1997 to 2003. In 2004 the pits and main grandstand were demolished to start a redesign after F1 had outgrown the track. Work stopped shortly afterwards until Red Bull began their reconstruction work in 2008. In May 2011 the track reopened as the Red Bull Ring to host the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and Formula 2. The track also hosts the MotoGP and the Austrian Formula One has been re-held there since 2014. The Red Bull Ring also hosts the Red Bull Air Race World Championship! The track in its present length is 2.688 mi long.
